Content text: Original Jean Batten Starts 3,000 miles flight to Africa - to make first attempt by a woman on South Atlantic. Miss jean Batten, the new Zeeland air girl, started from Lympne, Kent, at dawn on a 3,000- mile flight to West Africa, from where she will make the first attempt by a woman to fly the South Atlantic. She aims to fly from Thies, near Dehar on the West Coast of Africa, to Port Natal in Brazil. This will carry her over the South Atlantic for 2,000 miles, a 16-hour journey at least.
